The Art of Eggshell Inlay 蛋殼鑲嵌藝術
Each participant will create their own miniature 2D vase utilizing an art form from an original method used in China around the Tang dynasty (618-907 CE). Instructor Lydia Bratton will guide students through using a skill that requires meditative attention and an eye for detail to achieve consistency and a flow of movement in the pattern. Ms. Bratton’s work in progress using this same style is pictured below.
**Save those eggshells for this unique art project! Recommended: Soaking them overnight with a 50/50 water and vinegar solution will allow the inner membrane to peel easily off. Rinse and allow to dry. Place in a plastic container with a secure lid.

Looking for a meditative art form that has benefits for almost any age creator? Consider neurographic art!
According to Alexandra Vergara’s article for the Vancouver Visual Art Foundation: “Neurographic art is a therapeutic art form, which has gained vast popularity ever since Dr. Pavel Piscarev first coined the term in 2014. Neurographica has been scientifically validated and proven, and it is one of the most widely used psychological techniques in art therapy today. Also known as doodling, neurographic art is a technique, which comprises drawing freeform lines or ‘neuro lines.’ These are meant to enable the connection between the conscious and unconscious, gaining access to the inner self by using a specific algorithm or method. It’s an art form that also engages both our aesthetic and emotional intelligence, eliciting positive changes in our reality as it has been observed to create these changes in people experiencing chronic pain and anxiety, as well as helped people gain clarity and peacefulness.”
Learn the process step by step with Cheryl Miehl, Brentsville High School Art Educator and Visual Art Department Chair. Neurographic art combines color, line, composition, and craftsmanship with the science of psychology and brain research. When utilized within an art therapy context, neurographic art is a simple way to work with the subconscious mind through drawing. This creative method stimulates new neural pathways by combining art and psychology. Discover new ways to create beautiful images through this intriguing art form.
For ages 13 – adult.

Instructor Cheryl Miehl leads this meditative art workshop where students will be guided through learning the art of the Zentangle Method. The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. We call these patterns, tangles. You create tangles with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, S-curves, and orbs.
“By avoiding common blocks to creative flow such as: self-criticism, fear of failure, lack of immediate positive feedback, worrying about outcomes, frustration with lengthy training, lack of inspiration and doubts about what to do next, you can create beautiful art right away.
The Zentangle Method’s “elegance of limits” paradoxically inspires creativity with its gentle boundaries and structured patterns. These so-called limits enhance creativity and support a greater freedom of expression.
People of all ages, skills and interests enjoy the Zentangle Method all over this world. Together, they form a world-wide community of passionate and grateful artists, full of friendships, support, sharing and learning. Zentangle art provides common meeting ground because it is independent of language, age, political views, religious beliefs or any other category that separates one from another.”
