Event Details
Purpose: This course is designed to provide a foundation of healthy singing technique for students ages students 8-12. Students will learn how to access the two major registers of their voice and develop appropriate styles to perform a variety of works from the musical theatre cannon. Students will be introduced to basic music theory and will gain familiarity in reading music from a vocal score.
Objectives:
- Students will identify and demonstrate use of healthy singing techniques.
- Students will read and comprehend the symbols of a standard vocal music score.
- Students will learn and perform 3-5 choral selections from memory.
Materials:
- One folder for storing sheet music and handouts
- Pencils with erasers
Schedule of Topics:
Class 1: Foundations of Healthy Singing [breath support and vocal placement]
Class 2: Navigating the Score [learn and interpret basic music symbols]
Class 3: Technique and Musicianship (learn and practice different singing styles and techniques)
Class 4: More than Words (Part 1) [application of style through diction, vowel shapes, blend, dynamics and phrasing]
Class 5: More than Words (Part 2) [development of style through diction, vowel shapes, blend, dynamics, and phrasing]
Class 6: Follow the Leader [learn and understand musical gestures]
Class 7: Finishing Touches [prepare for final performance]
Class 8: Final Performance
All students must be vaccinated.

Tuition: $120 Register by December 26 for 10% tuition discount for non members and a 25% discount for members.
